When trucked water makes sense for a spa
- Your water comes from a well with iron, sulfur or hardness that stains shells and clogs filters, or the well is low-yield.
- There is no usable outdoor tap near the tub, or the hose would have to run through the house.
- Swim spas. At a couple of thousand gallons they behave more like a small pool.
- You are filling a pool at the same time, so the spa can share the load.
When a hose is better
A standard hot tub fills from a garden hose in an hour or two on city water. Because haulers usually charge a minimum per trip, a truck for a few hundred gallons rarely saves money. If that describes you, we will say so.
After the fill
Run the circulation pump before heating, then test and balance: pH, alkalinity and sanitizer first, calcium hardness as your manufacturer recommends. Many manufacturers suggest a pre-filter on the hose for well water.
